Super ShowDown is an ongoing professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network event, produced by WWE for their Raw and SmackDown brands that will take place on February 27, 2020 at the Mohammed Abdu Arena on the Boulevard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[1] It will be the third event promoted under the Super ShowDown chronology and the fifth event under WWE's 10-year partnership supporting Saudi Vision 2030.

Background

Main article: WWE in Saudi Arabia
In early 2018, the WWE began a 10-year strategic multiplatform partnership with the General Sports Authority in support of Saudi Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia's social and economic reform program.[2][3] The first event under this new partnership, the Greatest Royal Rumble, was held at the King Abdullah Sports City's King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah on April 27.[4][5] The third event, Super ShowDown, was announced to occur on June 7, 2019 at the same venue.[6] This also marked the second event under the Super ShowDown chronology, first of which was held on October 6, 2018 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.[7] At the Royal Rumble, a commercial aired confirming that a third Super ShowDown event would be held on February 27.[8] On January 30, 2020, PWInsider.com journalist Mike Johnson reported that it had been confirmed that WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan would make an appearance at the event;[9] both Goldberg and Hogan were the first two wrestling legends to be signed on appear at the event.[10] Though he is not scheduled to wrestle at the event,[11] The Undertaker was filmed arriving at the Riyadh airport with other WWE Superstars on February 26 and is scheduled to attend the show as well.[12]

Storylines

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands,[13][14] while storylines are produced on WWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.[15]
